Honey, your face is delicious! DIY: How to Use Honey as a Facial Wash…
Let’s get down…and sticky! For the past week and a half I’ve been using honey as my final facial cleanser. By final cleanser I mean that I wash with black soap, then apply honey to my face afterwards. I let it sit for about 5 minutes before washing it off with cool water. So far – my face is thanking me for it. Now, before you start wondering what the heck I’m doing, let me give you a few facts! :)
Honey can be used as part of a dry skin regimen because its composition is described as a humectant. Using a honey-based facial mask proves beneficial to areas of skin that tend to become dry or itchy because it lends moisture to these areas.
Protects Against Damage
Honey is a natural antioxidant, which proves beneficial when taken internally, but it also provides protective benefits when used topically on the skin.
It is well known that honey has strong antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, and it has been used as a treatment for wounds and other skin problems. It is great for sensitive skin.
Most curlies use honey in their homemade deep conditioner recipes, of which I’m also a fan! It leaves my hair soft and happy. In the case that you’re interested in adding honey to your facial cleansing regime, here are a few options:
—1 tablespoon honey
—Cover face with warm water and rub honey over face. Let it sit for a moment and wash away with cold water.
Honey-Oats Face Scrub:
—1 tablespoon honey
—2 tablespoons dry oatmeal
Rub together in palm of hand then massage gently in circular motions on face. For a luxurious and exfoliating facial scrub massage mixture gently onto face, then rinse with warm water. This blend gives a deeply emollient cleansing to the pores of your face.
Honey-Baking Soda Scrub:
—One tablespoon raw organic honey
—Combine with one teaspoon baking soda in palm
Rub together in palm of hand then massage gently in circular motions on face. Let sit for a minute (or don’t) then rinse thoroughly with warm or even cold water
—1/4 cup of fine ground oatmeal
—1/4 cup of milk
—2 teaspoons of honey
Add the 1/4 cup of oatmeal into a bowl. Slowly add 1/4 cup of milk. Do this until the mixture becomes gooey. Stir in the two teaspoons of honey and mix well. Apply the paste to your face and relax for 10-15 mins. Rinse with cool water.
